Join us as we journey to Portugal in 2022!

Our Fall 2022 trip to Portugal consists of a 7-night voyage on Portugal’s Douro River Valley, November 8-15th, with an optional PreCruise Tour of Lisbon & Porto November 4-8, 2022. (Book by November 20, 2021 and receive a $500 per Stateroom on Cruise Fare).

Beautiful Lisbon at dusk

The optional PreCruise Tour begins with 3 nights in Lisbon, touring this historic city whose early origins date back to ancient Greece and Phoenicia. On the fourth day we depart for Porto, visiting en route the miraculous Fatima and medieval Coimbra, arriving in Porto late afternoon. The following morning, we’ll enjoy a full day site-seeing beautiful Porto with a private tour, tasting and leisurely lunch at the famous Taylor Fladgate, Portugal’s oldest and most distinguished Port wine producer, Licensed Purveyor to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.

Board the AmaVida for an enticing Douro Cruise.

ALL ABOARD!

At 4pm we’ll board the beautiful and intimate 102 passenger vessel M/S AmaVida for 7 nights on the Douro visiting Régua’s Palacio Anadia (Palace of the Counts), Pinhão, Vega Terron in Spain and the ancient village of Barca d’Alva to name a few, before returning to Porto.

Travel & Leisure magazine calls Portugal “a magnet for those who want luxury without the sticker shock of Europe’s more well-trod capitals.” The wines of Portugal are marvelous, with native grape varietals like the red Touriga Franca and white Trajadura producing world class dry wines to wash down the marvelous seafood and delicious Petiscos e doces, the Portuguese versions of tapas. Learn about and visit the vineyards and premises of renowned centuries-old port producers like Taylor-Fladgate, Graham, Cockburn, Sandeman and Warre’s.

PLANNED EVENTS ON BOARD

On board AmaVida, Tom will hold two tastings and a paired dinner, pouring his best work to date. And just as importantly we’ll explore together the towns and villages along the Douro, which are arguably one of Europe’s best kept secrets and lowest traffic destinations. Portuguese wineries, called “quintas”, are excellent and fascinating, producing magnificent dry red wines. The famous port wines here captured the world’s attention long ago. Vinho Verde, the crisp dry white meant to be drunk young, will impress you. Along the way experience flamenco and fado, see extraordinary castles, palaces, iconic cathedrals and taste enough exquisite wine to last a lifetime.
